Story

Tomorrow brings to an end my 4at40 challenge which has certainly been a Challenge !!!

Thanks to everyone for your help and for the money you have donated.

Well its just 2 days until my final event.... The Great North Run. Fingers crossed its a decent day and any wind will be blowing from a Westerly direction.

The sponsorship raised has gone way above my wildest dreams and I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read my page and donate your hard earned cash.

I will report back on Sunday after the run.

Well thats Event 3 out of the way and what an event it was. Has to go down as the most satisfying thing Ive done sports wise for a long time. The swim in the sea went far better than I thought and the Bike was superb. For 30 minutes or so I felt like a pro cyclist with all the people at the side of the road cheering me on. The run although a bit of a plod didnt cause too much trouble and I managed to finish in the middle of the field of 300. A good effort for my first ever Triathlon.

Now its 6 days rest until the final event THE GREAT NORTH RUN

Great weekend of training with a 700m open water swim kicking it off on Saturday morning in Cullercoats harbour before a bit of surfing at Tynemouth. Saturday afternoon saw me doing a bit of cycle speedway practise which was hard work on the legs after the swimming. Sunday morning was my first run for a couple of months but have to be very happy with 10k in just under 1 hour. My breathing felt better than ever and although my legs are now very tired I've got to happy with the way the weekend has gone.

So the training switches a little from the bike to the trainers with hopefully a nice gentle run tomorrow night to get my legs used to the Tarmac again.

Thanks so much for the sponsorship so far. Very hard day yesterday and struggled at times. Special thank you to 2 lads who I had never met before but helped me so much on the ride. I will be eternally grateful to Andy Haw and Mick Traynor you were a couple of stars who kept me going when times were tough.

Reached my first target which is fantastic when times are so hard. Thank you all so much.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you will know 2 people close to my heart have suffered over the past few years from Breast Cancer. Because of this and with me turning 40 I decided to do something a little different and invent a 4 at 40 challenge.

Event 1 - 30th June 2012 - Virgin Money Cyclone - Cycling - 105 mile bike ride from Newcastle Falcons Rugby club out into the Cheviot Hills and back.

Event 2 - 26th August 2012 - Great North Bike Ride - Cycling - 57 miles from Seahouses to Tynemouth.

Event 3 - 9th September 2012 - Newbiggin Triathlon - 750m swim in the sea, 23km bike ride, 5.3km run

Event 4 - 16th September 2012 - Great North Run - Running - 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields.

I know its hard times at the moment and people dont have spare cash hanging about but if I can raise a few pounds for a very worthy cause I would be over the moon.

One donation for 4 events............ Go on please dig deep.

Many Thanks......... Gavin
