Glasgow to John O'Groats solo cycle in 24 hrs · 27 April 2009

500 miles helps people in Malawi & Zambia who have impaired mobility as a result of amputation, deformity, illness or accident by supplying artificial limbs and splints & braces for all-comers, but especially the poor. Our focus, through training, is development of sustainable in-country services.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I'm hoping that together we can change as many lives as possible for the better, bringing mobility and and a vastly improved quality of life to people in need. For example £600 pounds could buy 10 artificial limbs ! UPDATE
After a couple of delays due to some nasty looking weather - I spotted a weather window for Sunday and set about recruiting a replacement cycling Sherpa (my wife Linda) cos Glen was away this weekend.

I started from Glasgow at 4.30am on Sunday 24th to do the 295 miles to John O'Groats. Things went really well - mostly - and I managed to keep going at a really decent pace - eventually getting in to John O'Groats 19hrs and 5mins later.

A huge thanks to everyone who has sponsored me. It was a big help to me to know that a lot of good would come from my effort (stupidity some have said + I kind of agree! )

The picture shows me right after arriving 11.35pm beside a plain white pole. I did'nt know they take the top of the pole with all the mileage signs in overnight ???

For anyone interested in any more detail:
Cycling time 17hrs 5min
Ave speed 17.2 mph
Punctures 1 - but it was a bad one that ruined the tyre and I had to get a replacement.
Things that helped fuel the trip, 15 cereal bars, 8 bananas, 3 packets of Jelly Babies, bottle of flat Tonic Water, 20 energy Gel sachets etc etc.
Max speed 44 mph
Min speed 6 mph
