Story
Thanks
for visiting my fundraising page.
Here
is an update to my walking challenge: to walk the GR20 across Corsica , one of Europe’s toughest treks.
I completed the walk in 15 days as planned, with a break for a day, (after day 9), to rest my bruised feet; the 21 kilogram rucksack load I carried was not kind to my fallen arches. The walk itself was very tough, but quite extraordinarily beautiful and wild; an experience I will always treasure.
As well as completing the GR20; I managed to climb to the summit of 3 of the prominent mountains on route, including the second highest on the island; Monte Ritondu, which was the highlight of the trip. There was still a large amount of snow on the ridges and tops of the mountains. I was away for 3 weeks in a tent and only 3 nights in a hotel. I was privileged to meet many others who were equally determined to explore the GR20 and share the experience.
See the photos to the left to get an idea of the nature of the walk.
My thanks go to everyone who has supported me, provided advice, and made donations to Send a Cow including all those who have donated off-line: Jill Robinson, Jane Porter and John, Joanna and Edward Boanas, Amanda and Andy Tucker, and Mr and Mrs Jackson. The website will be operational until September, which means donations can continue to be made on-line over the summer. And of course, cash and cheques will be gratefully received off-line as well.
The fantastic news is that together we have managed to raise enough money to purchase one cow (£750) and some more resources besides that. This will transform the life of at least one family in Africa with the potential to help many others as well. This is an amazing achievement.
Many thanks to you all,
Gavin.
