Dear friends and strangers,
it only took me 30 years to realize that kids are actually kind of ok, some are even cool. Some of you might already know my sister had a son last year- a big, healthy guy named Maciej. Maciej is cool, he smiles a lot, is getting quite fat actually and it seems like he has everything he needs- food, health care, clean(ish) and safe home, loving parents, an awesome aunt, fantastic grandparents and (hopefully very soon) a dog. I can see him growing up and becoming an architect (after a short period of rebellion when he`ll come to live with me in London only to realize I`m weird and not as funny as I think I am and that his parents are normal and that`s actually a good thing), or a doctor or an environmental lawyer or an amazing artist or a stay at home dad. Whichever he chooses. Maciej will be ok. But not every kid is as lucky as my sister`s son (I can`t believe I`m actually writing this...). Some are born into poverty, hunger and violence. Some of them will never have a chance at a normal, safe life, let alone get an opportunity to follow their dreams. In their short lives they will experience more pain and suffering than many adults throughout their entire lifetimes. And it`s not ok, it`s not their fault they were born in a challenging place and time, nor is it to our merit that we weren`t.
Being a selfish creature I want to do something about it while doing something I love - cycling. I`m going to cycle 100 miles on the 31st of July and by that time I want to raise £600 for Unicef UK, an amazing charity that I`m sure you all know about, that helps kids in countries torn by war, disease and poverty.
Last but not least, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and assure you that all donations will be very much appreciated.
