After many months of well founded rumour Andrew Bell and Paul Glatzel officially announce that they have entered Andrew’s 9.2m Scorpion RIB “Evolution” into the 2010 Great British RIB Rally starting 12th June and ending on the 23rd June.

The Great British RIB Rally 2010 is being organised by Scorpion RIBs in Lymington and about 15 RIBs have entered from a variety of manufacturers. Unlike most boating expeditions around the UK this event is planning to route participants around the west coast of Ireland, along the Atlantic coast and, rather than taking the usual short-cut through Scotland via the Caledonian Canal, the boats are planning to travel around the top of Scotland.   The event is not a race and aims to cover the 1870 nautical miles in 12 days.

As part of this trip of a lifetime, we aim to raise in excess of £10,000 for the Sparkle Appeal which is being organised by the Victoria Education Centre in Lyndsay Road, Poole.

We are pleased to announce that three Corporate sponsors, Pukka Pads, 288 Group and Powerboat Training UK have offered to provide sponsorship.  We would be delighted to hear from other Corporate and personal sponsors who would like to support our appeal.

100% of the monies raised will go to the Sparkle Appeal, all expenses for the trip will be personally funded.

Fundraising Update:
As we launch our Just Giving page I am pleased to advise that we have raised £3,650.00 so far.  Our three corporate sponsors, 288 Group, Pukka Pads and Powerboat Training UK have each donated £500.00 each.  In addition members of Poole Round Table have supported our cause with a 2,000.00 donation.    A further £150.00 has been donated by Mr Chris Fletcher of TSI Limited.

"Livability" is the organisation which manages the Victoria Education Centre and thus the Sparkle Appeal.

The Sparkle Appeal

"Appeal organisers have their sights set on building a replacement hydrotherapy pool and a therapy centre for children aged from three to 19 who have physical disabilities. Eight purpose-built ground-floor pods will offer facilities for hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy. Many of the centre’s 97 children suffer from cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophy. Others have been involved in accidents, suffered severe illness, tumours or strokes. For some, their only means of communication is through specialist eye gaze technology. The Lindsay Road complex, between Bournemouth and Poole, is celebrating its 50th birthday this year.  Children who attend are mostly from the area although some come from much further afield for specialist education, care and therapy. The registered charity and children’s home is open round the clock, every day of the year providing a permanent home for 18 children. Appeal chairman Geoff Warde said: “Some of these children suffer from severe illnesses so it’s important that we make their lives sparkle as much as we can while they are here. “We have to raise £1million before we can start work on the hydrotherapy pool. “It’s an incredibly worthwhile cause and is all about giving the children the best quality of life possible. “For some children hydrotherapy is their only relief. “Swimming provides many pupils with the chance to exercise outside their wheelchairs. “The current pool, which is also open to the public and free to every disabled user, is more than 25 years old with restricted changing facilities and poor hoisting provision. Hydrotherapy is a proven treatment to help relax, stretch and stimulate as well as restore posture and balance. “Our exciting new state-of-the-art therapy centre will enable all the specialist therapy teams to work together, in one place, to provide a bright future for our young students’ individual and specialised needs.”
