The focus of Male Uprising Guernsey (MUG) is to increase awareness and promote education around the symptoms and treatment of prostate, bowel and testicular cancers. Funds raised are also used to improve the diagnosis and care of local men suffering with male cancers. #GetChecked.

Story

ONE MAN TWO ULTRA-MARATHONS SEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS

Two ultra-marathons have now been completed just 4 months apart!

On Sunday 10th August, I crossed the finish line of the 100 mile run after 23 hours 31 minutes of running, placing 23rd out of 250 entrants. Back in April I finished a 50 mile run after 8 hours 49 minutes.

Please show your support by donating to help expand CanMove's specialist cancer exercise classes. There has been an amazing number of donations, more than we ever thought, so thank you to all of you.

The money raised will go to:

  • expand the existing classes
  • take the classes onto the hospital wards
  • keep the classes FREE to the patients

Please Note: As CanMove is not a charity, one of our sponsors, MUG, has kindly agreed to receive donations on our behalf. ALL funds raised will then be forwarded directly to CanMove. EVERY PENNY will go ONLY to these classes.

On Sat 9th August, I competed in the North Downs Way 100 2014. Starting in Farnham, I ran 100 miles to Wye on mostly off-road trail paths, with a total climb of 9930ft. I had to complete in under 30 hours to avoid disqualification. Only 250 entrants were permitted, all had to have completed an ultra-marathon previously.

In April, I competed in the South Downs Way 50 2014, starting in Worthing, and ran 50 miles to Eastbourne on mostly off-road trail paths, with slippery chalk beds and rocks, exposed ridges, muddy puddles, low visibility and climbing up and down from 1460m elevation.  (I needed to complete in under 13.5 hours to avoid disqualification.)

A couple of testimonials from the classes:

"I could not have recovered from therapy as well as I have if you had not been around"

"The class is proving to be a huge boost to my recovery"
