Birmingham Half Marathon 2009 · 11 October 2009 ·

It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

Hi

I am running the half marathon in birmingham to raise money for the Birmingham Childrens Hospital.   My nephew Ryan, was treated in the hospital, on ward 15, for Leukaemia, but sadly passed away.  The hospital became home for my sister and Ryan for the seven months that Ryan was treated there.  The staff, nurses and specialists were wonderful to both of them.  The support and love we, as a family, received was so magnificent.

Ryan sadly passed away, aged 9 months, and is missed every day.  Even after Ryan passed, the hospital staff still continued to support my sister through very tough times.

Ryan is now an Angel and at peace, but there are still very poorly children, on ward 15, suffering with this devastating disease.  They need special treatment and machinery that are very expensive, but can save lives.

So, please help me raise as much money as possible.  Every penny counts to helping these children live longer, healthier llives.

Thank you in advance.

Gemma
