Somewhere about midway on my 'list of things to do before im 40' was 'run the london marathon for a charity'.
For some reason, not known by myself i applied for a chance to run it in 2010 by applying for the ballot place. Expectations from others were low and so i was utterly flabberghasted when i received the email to confirm i had been accepted to run in April 2010! Even more so at the fact that i now had to actually run 26 whole miles!! And the last time i had exerted myself physically was in school playing something rather less strenous such as 'catch' in the sportsgym!
I am not a born runner, however will give it a bloody good shot and aim to be trained and fit enough to run the whole thing in April. I'm not fussed how long it take me! But i WILL finish!!!
Training to start has been tough! But i have had support from all angles and of all types from a running partner ( my poor roped along boyfriend) to a good friend and flat mate checking that i do actually go out daily to run aswell as another flatmate threatening to chase me with wooden spoons along the marathon route on the big day on a pushbike to make me run further and faster!
As my training progresses and the time until the event draws closer i ask of you to be very generous indeed and dig deep for any few pennies that may be lying around at home, in the car, anywhere, to sponsor me to help raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.
An increasingly common cancer, is often left undiagnosed with few symptoms until it is too serious to cure. Also being a cancer of a delicate body area that society do not like to talk about or question changes in habits, people are embarrassed to get checked out!!! This must change and every penny raised by my silly idea of running such a ridiculous distance will go towards helping those affected by Bowel Cancer and for further research into the disease.

Events so far:
One of my training hospitals for my degree donated a total of £325 so far when i set out a lunch spread in our staff room, including home baked scones, cakes, flapjacks, sandwiches and all the rest you'd expect to see at a buffet style lunch! It was a roaring success and i thank everybody who attended!
I am currently planning a Bric-a-Brac sale at my halls of residence at LSB University and this is planned for the 20th February.
Another event i am planning is a huuuuge raffle open to all 23,000 students in my university where tickets are on sale from the 8th March in our main hall lobby. Here i have approached many generous companies who have kindly donated hampers and gift packs to contribute to the prize line up and for these special people I would like to give a huge THANK YOU!!!
