GET KIDS GOING (Helping disabled childeren into sport)
Hi, My name is Geoff Smith and i have decided, ( after 3 bottles of red wine with the brother-in-law!) to take on the challenge of climbing the worlds highest single mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro.
I have chosen 2 charities that i want to try to make a difference to:-
Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that sadly has probably touched all of us, or will do in our lifetime, and they do some amazing work. They work so hard with patients and familys associated with this terrible disease. Please log onto their website www.macmillan.org.uk to find out more about the work they do.
Get Kids Going is a charity that gives disabled children and young people a wonderful opportunity of participating in sport- something very close to my heart. The charity provides specially built wheelchairs and equipment to able these kids to participate in golf, cricket, basketball, tennis, sailing and many more sports. I have wanted to do something like this for many years and i would like to thank my family for the encouragement to decide to do it.
I leave for Tanzania on the 1st October 2010 and i am really enthusiastic about taking on this climb of this approx. 20,000 ft mountain . I am also very aware that it is going to be a lot of hard work, both training for the climb and doing it and will challenge me both physically and mentally. However the people that will benefit from the help that MacMillan Cancer Support and Get Kids Going give, are far more challenged every day of their lives. So please give as much as you possibly can to help make their lives a little bit easier.
