Message from Geoff In September 2007 following a late night session in one of Belfast's finest hostelries, I happened to mention to two of my colleagues that it would be a good idea to try a long distance cycle ride ahead of my 50th birthday. Before I knew it we had all committed to the idea of cycling 1000 Miles from the tip of England, through Wales to the furthest most reaches of Scotland. The "LEJOG", Lands End to John O'Groats. Had I lost my marbles! Or was the Guinness stronger in Ireland! The tour team consists of three,Gary Roche, Dan Bridgeman and me, me being the only one that has a bike! We will begin our challenge on the 7th June 2008 and hopefully complete the journey in 15 days. We will be partially supported along the route by having our bags moved from hostel to hostel; food, washing of clothes, cycle maintenance and of course pedaling will be down to us.
The start date is fast approaching and training has ramped up to 25 miles every other night, weekends see me trying to hit the magical daily target of 70 miles. I’m really looking forward to the trip and I hope that you can help Dan and me reach the target of £10,000 in aid of terminally ill children.
Message from Dan This will be my first bike ride for the best part of 15 years! So when Geoff came to me asking if I would like to come along on the trip of a lifetime to see the best parts of the beautiful British countryside that is on offer I thought why the hell not...not giving much thought to the gruelling task ahead. Well there is no turning back now so the training is well on the way, the waistline is (or will be) winding its way back in, The Bridgeman Bike Bonanza is on track. oooooh eck! I'm allowed to be scared aren’t I?
