Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
ALL DONATIONS MADE THROUGH THIS PAGE WILL GO TO THE LINGEN DAVIES CANCER CENTRE APPEAL. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO THE COUNTY AIR AMBULANCE, PLEASE GO TO www.justgiving.com/geoffcoates2
Back in 2006, I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, for which I received radiotherapy treatment at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. At that time, I was employed as a civilian instructor at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering (DCAE) Cosford (formerly RAF Cosford), which is the home of the Shropshire Air Ambulance, and I promised myself that if I survived the cancer, I would do something to raise money for the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal at the RSH and the County Air Ambulance.
I am happy to say that I did survive, and in order to keep my promise I have decided to raise the money by walking from the Air Ambulance base at Cosford to the Cobalt Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, a distance of about 25 - 30 miles. I'll be accompanied on the walk by Darren 'Daz' Jones, who, like me, spent many years in the RAF and is now a school teacher in Wolverhampton. The route we have chosen for the walk will take us past the Wrekin, so to make it a bit more of a challenge, we will be going up to the top and back as part of the journey, and just to make it even more of a challenge, we'll be walking from RSH back to Cosford, also via the Wrekin, the following day!
This will all take place on 4th and 5th October, and I hope it will impress you enough to make you dig deep into your pocket/purse/wallet and sponsor us for either the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal or the County Air Ambulance, or preferably both. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Lingen Davies Cancer Relief Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
p.s. Daz and I are hoping for a bit of company during the event, so if you fancy joining us, you will be most welcome (Telephone 01952 770053 for more details).
