War Child is an international child protection agency that works with the most marginalised children - child soldiers, street kids and children in prison - in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. War Child believes it is unacceptable that children continue to be victims of war. In the last decade alone 1.5 million children have died in wars. Four million have been disabled and a further 10 million traumatised. We provide vital, on the ground support programmes in each of the conflict zones we work in but also lobby politicians and governments to ensure our cause and the rights of children affected by war remains high on the public and political agendas. This approach allows us to ensure every pound we receive goes as far as possible - not only to the crucial projects in the field, but to ensuring children caught up in conflict, no matter where they may be, have a chance to be protected. We work where other agencies do not, reaching the most at risk children in the most dangerous war zones and your support means we can continue to do so. War Child looks forward to a world in which war is not prosecuted on children.

My story

IN AID OF "KIDS COMPANY" AND "WAR CHILD"

George Richard Namiki Oliver

3rd April 2008 - 25th June 2009

We are lucky enough to have been given an amazing little boy. Funny, happy, lively and open. We were constantly in awe of his fierce and loving spirit. He was much loved by all his friends, family and the people who knew him.

George was taken from us by a sudden illness on 25th June. We are very sad and we miss him every day. But we are so thankful for the incredible time that we had with him - for being happier than we thought it was possible to be, for having no regrets because we loved him every second, for all the amazing memories that we will carry with us for the rest of our lives.

We believe there are other children who also deserve a chance like George had. We hope that because of what happened to George some other children might have a better chance at a happier life. We want his spirit to live on through our actions and your actions. We want to make this happen in George's name. Please help us to do this.

We are supporting the charities War Child and Kids Company. You will only see the donation page for War Child as due to logistical issues, we cannot set up two charities on one page, but we have organised for all donations to be split equally between these two very deserving charities.

War Child is a small international charity that helps children that are affected and threatened by war. Further information can be found at www.warchild.org.uk. War Child dedicate their work to finding sustainable solutions for the most vunerable children in areas of conflict - street children, child soldiers and children in prison. Offering them help, support and a chance for a better future.

Kids Company is a London based charity that provides practical, emotional and educational support to children that have been growing up without the support that many people take for granted. Kids Company helps these children to fulfil their potential and face the future. This is a charity that changes things on your own doorstep. See www.kidsco.org.uk for more information.

You can help us support these children. You can make donations here in memory of George. You can also help just by doing anything you can to raise the profile of these charities - by talking about them to your friends and family, by buying the music that War Child produces, by volunteering, mentoring or just keeping tabs on Kids Company. George made a difference to our lives and we can make a difference to other children because of what happened to him.

This is a long term commitment for us, so please help us now and help us in the future.
