My story
Dec 09 - Firstly . . . many thanks for visting my fundraising page. . .
. . . on Sunday 26th April 2009 the big chap pictured on the left (who is actually built for speed) will tackle the London Marathon. . . . I plan to try and raise "loads of money" for The Rainbow Trust and I need your help. . . .so please dig deep and help me to raise thousands.
My training has started. All my Christmas presents were running related. . . . shoes. . . shorts. . . gloves. . . vest (XXL) and I now look like a runner. . . a very large one. I’m now running over 10k twice a week. . . . plus long runs on Sundays . . I'm training about 4 or 5 hrs/wk. . . I'm still very slow. . . it still hurts everytime. . . but I'm still smiling.
Rainbow Trust Children's Charity provides practical and emotional support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
Rainbow Trust's Family Support Workers join the family in their own home and are there to provide whatever practical support is needed. They may attend hospital appointments with parents, sit by the bedside of the sick child to give parents a break and take worried siblings out for the day. The charity supports families for as long as they need us - from diagnosis, through the illness and beyond.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Rainbow Trust Children's Charity gets your money faster. . . and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid is added to your donation.
So please please make every effort to sponsor me. . . . .Thank you very much for helping this truly worthwhile cause.
Thanks . . . George xx
Jan 09 - I'm running very regularly now. . . . .but I never have time for training longer than 60mins. . .so the long runs (which are starting to get long) end up being short runs. . . . I've done one 9 miler.. . and thats my lot. . . no way can I run that 2 more times.. . . .not without medical assistance. . . . . . It's only now that I'm thinking of taking performance enhancing drugs.
Feb 09 - I'm trying to average over 30miles a week now. . .working up to 40miles over the next 4 weeks. Starting to pick up small injuries now. . ankle and hip. Sundays long runs have to be over 2 hours from now on.. . . . . .How long will you take?? . . is the question that everybody is asking. . .. my objectives are . . 1st - to finish. . . 2nd - to finish before the man in the diving suit (the one with the lead shoes) 3rd - not to cross the line next to a man dressed as a rhino.
Mar 09 - . . .slowly but steadily the 26th April draws nearer. . . i seem to be over the injuries (not the hip. . but I seem to manage). . .christina (Swain + Powell - Sport Injury and Massage Clinic) gave me a massage last week. .
. .and that seems to have got the blood flowing. I had a 6 day break from training last week. . . . . . . I may regret that on Marathon Day.
I cannot thank enough, all those that have sponsored me and offered words of encouragement (. . are you sure George?. . this could kill you - Ali Damant).
April 09 - .. . . .only 9 more days. . . a few short training runs. . . and then the 26.2 miles.. . . . and all this madness will be over. . .
. . . . they said . . .“if you stick to the training plan. . you will finish the marathon”. . . .I’m still not sure if that will be the case. . . .after 26 weeks of training and losing nearly 26 lbs in weight. . . . . . the marathon finish line dosen’t seem any nearer.
I just want to say a BIG thank you for all the sponsorship and really nice comments and messages of support on my Justgiving page. . . it really means a lot to me. . .THANK YOU
April 09 - .. . . .only 6 more days. . . . .
. . . . . money pledged but still to be collected = £360
May 09 - .. . . . . . . .
. . . . . money pledged but still to be collected = £150. . ish

Rainbow Trust Children's Charity
Charity Registration No. 1070532
This year Rainbow Trust celebrates its 25th anniversary. Founded in 1986, we have now supported thousands of families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness. With the help of the families who share their inspirational stories about the difference Rainbow has made to their lives, we have been able to raise our profile and tell more people about the valuable work that we do. From the humble beginnings of two staff and a kitchen table to work from, Rainbow is now a national charity and supports approximately 1000 families across England. Thanks to the dedication and hard-work of staff and volunteers, Rainbow continues to grow year on year and makes progress towards achieving its vision that one day all terminally ill children and their families will have access to a Rainbow carer. To mark this anniversary, Rainbow will be holding special profile raising fundraising activities to make this year our most successful yet.
