As many of you know I spent an amazing two months last year volunteering in a school in Peru. As I am not able to jump on a plane and head back I thought I would do something to raise money to continue to support the kids. Wanting to do something challenging and having done minimal exercise for the last however many years I decided to attempt to run the Windsor half marathon in September and was hoping you would sponsor me!
The GVI Phoenix project in Peru supports 4 local community schools in impoverished areas to help improve literacy, numeracy and give the children opportunities in life they would never otherwise have. In addition to providing a safe environment for learning GVI also runs a food program to ensure the kids get at least one proper meal a day and last year we raised enough money to ensure all the kids had medical and dental treatment as well as providing glasses for all who needed them (thanks to many of you).
The projects rely predominantly on volunteers for funding however as they expand their work and begin to support new communities additional support is needed. Having been there and seen first hand the difference these projects can make to the kids lives I can honestly say every penny you donate will make a real difference and will go directly to the work in the communities.
