On the 5th of august this year i intend to swim from Penarth(nr cardiff),accross the Bristol channel to Weston super-mare,after clearing the water, I will then swim the 8.5nautical miles back, making a total of 17nautical miles a 2 Way swim.
The swim will be done under Channel swimming rules just spedos, goggles, swim cap and a smile! I wont be able to touch the boat for the duration of the swim, and all feeds will be handed to me.The bristol channel is re known as having the second largest tides in the world, and as its so narrow at that point....it may take me a while....
Whey Hey!!
I will be doing this swim for Cieran, a nursery pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg Rhosafan,at which my sister Delyth is a teacher. Cieran is one of twins and was born 12 weeks prematurely, and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 15months.He suffers with severe tone(stiffness)in his legs and all the nhs can offer him is 1hour of physiopherapy a week.If this tone isn't reduced then there is little chance that Cieran will progress with his balance and walking, and will cause him serious problems as he grows. Cieran's parents are trying to raise money to take him to america this september, to have an operation to take the tone away from his legs, so the chances of him facing numerous surgery throughout his life will be significantly lowered.
Extensive research has shown that the success percentage of this procedure are really high, and most of the children have started walking independently after having S.D.R.His parents just want to give Cieran every chance possible,so that he can realise his full potential.
