Having declared 2011 as my year of Half Marathons, I have entered three during the late Summer and early Autumn. Beginning with the Hackney Marshes 1/2 in August, then the Bupa Great North Run in September, and with the crescendo being the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 09th October. All of which I will be running in aid of Get Kids Going!

Not one to take things lightly, my aim was not to beat my Royal Parks Half Marathon best of 1:25:30 from 2009, but to SMASH my overall Half Maraton PB of 1:23.:32 from Silverstone in March that same year. My target for 2011 was to run SUB 1 Hour 20 minutes!

As you know, I am usually training for one event or another. Competing with my fellow East London Runners in everything from 5k races to full marathons. However, it is not always easy. Sometimes the thought of that early morning long run, or that speedwork session is just daunting. The deamons in my head are what I have to overcome most.

Being be able-bodied, I count my blessings, realising that there are those less fortunate than myself who are often more dedicated, more disiplined and more inspiring than me. Get Kids Going! is a national charity that supports such young people - up to the age of 26 - giving them the wonderful chance of participating in sport. Helping them to lead healthy, active, and sport filled lives.

Get Kids Going! inspires disabled youngsters to compete in sporting events, from start to paralympic level, by giving them 'sports grants' to help with their; training, physiotherapy, travel, competition fees, design and development of sports' wheelchairs etc. They provide them with specially built sports' wheelchairs so they can participate in a multitude of different sports from athletics & marathons to tennis, skiing, shooting, rugby, basketball, archery, powerlifting and many more sports.

I can only but dream of becoming a world record holder, or an Olympic champion, but with your help, Get Kids Going! can support many young athletes who may become world record holders and paralympic champions.

I would like to ask you to feel inspired by the dedication these young disabled athletes show in the face of adversity, overcoming stigma, discrimination and fear, raising their game to become the best in their field.

So please dig deep and donate now.
