591 Signals Unit is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. Unit personnel have decided to complete a 188 mile cycle ride linking all previous 591 SU home locations since being formed in 1952, I've foolishly agreed to take part. The event will be from the 10th - 12th Jul 12. The Unit was formed at RAF Wythall, near Birmingham on 1 Jun 1952 and soon moved to RAF Medmenham near the River Thames. It finally moved to RAF Digby in 1955 and has been monitoring RAF communications security ever since.
The cycle ride has been named 'Exercise Historical Ride' and will commence at Dansefield House, the former officers mess at RAF Medmenham and the only element of the old RAF Station still standing. We will then head North towards Wythall, now a Transport Museum before our final leg to RAF Digby. We intend to complete the ride in 3 days with a team of 10 cyclists and 2 support personnel.
We chose Help for Heroes as our chairty for this Event so please dig deep and donate some cash.
Members of the team are as follows:
Mark Barmby, Stuart Gould, Jason Murray, John Cormack, Zoe Hannan, Gil King, Doug Malcolm, Craig Fleming, Tom Watson, Paul Weston, Jordan Briggs, Paul Clark
