My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

In February this year I became Chair of the Women of the Year Lunch (WOYL), with which I am proud to have been associated for the past 8 years.  My initial interest was aroused by its founder, the inspirational Lady Lothian, who held the first event over 50 years ago.  Since my involvement I have seen it grow in terms of influence and weight to what it is today.  It has broadened its original activity from running an annual Lunch to celebrate the achievements of 500 extraordinary women, to initiating an Annual Lecture and the setting up of a Foundation 5 years ago to help a number of young women across the UK through a series of grants to fund new businesses.  Examples of some of the success stories can be found at http://www.womenoftheyear.co.uk/foundation.htm.

On 2 November in New York, the Queens of Bling and Sing, myself and Joan Armatrading, who is President of WOYL, will be cantering round the New York marathon in aid of the above Foundation, and jointly aiming to raise £100k.  My personal trainers, John and James, will be running with me for the same good cause, as will my colleague Jack Adamson, and several other friends.  All have their own sponsorship pages on JustGiving.

My assistant, Diane Haywood, will be there with a group of cheerleaders to encourage us and to hand out the fruit smoothies at the finishing line, and Gayle & Steve Morrison will be hosting the post marathon, foot massaging party. 

Our feet and your generosity should ensure that many deserving women will have cause to thank us for the help that we will be able to give them as a result of our efforts.
