Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.

Story

Welcome to my fundraising page! This is my first bash at the London Marathon -- I was raring to go last year but then I got a stress fracture, which cruelly terminated my dreams of leaving Paula Radcliffe gasping in my slipstream. This year I've only got a dodgy ankle to contend with (get those excuses in early), but my boyfriend told me to get on with it before some of the creakier bits drop off altogether.
Anyway here's your chance to donate to a fabulous cause, namely Hearing Dogs. I'm aiming to raise £5000. That's the amount needed to train a puppy to become a Hearing Dog.
So what's a Hearing Dog? It's a guide dog for people who have lost all or most of their hearing. It's trained to alert its owner when the phone rings or somebody knocks on the door. On trips to the shops, the dog can provide vital warnings about oncoming traffic or other hazards. Hearing Dogs really can transform people's lives, and since many of them were unwanted puppies, the dogs' lives are transformed too. So here's the moment you take the padlock off your wallet, shake out the moths and stump up some dosh. Go on, you know you'll feel better!
