Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am very pleased to be able to report that I have completed the trek, visited the Nyaru Menteng Sanctuary and arrived safely back home, albeit a little bruised and bitten !!!!! What an adventure, what a truly amazing experience, worth all the effort ( and believe me it was a tremendous challenge at times), wouldn't have missed it for the world !!
The fundraising page is still open for anybody who would like to help out, they are doing a great job out there, such a dedicated and caring team. The biggest issue is to secure land so that the Orangutans can be released back into the wild.....and that comes at an enormous cost particularly since they are up against the huge Palm Oil companies. Palm Oil is in just about everything but there is enough sourced from sustainable sources, they really do not need to be devastating the Rain Forest and along with it displacing so much of the wildlife. PLEASE try to buy products that are Rain Forest friendly and if possible challenge the supermarkets to only supply products that are using sustainable palm oil. Many thanks for your support. Gillian

In November I am embarking on an adventure when I am joining a sponsored trek organised by WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) in the Borneo jungle.

My fellow trekkers and I are raising money for the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan sanctuary funded by BOS (Borneo Orangutan Survival). Located in the Indonesian part of Borneo the sanctuary cares for about 650 Orangutans.

Orangutans are threatened due to the loss of their habitat through deforestation as a result of the palm oil industry, the illegal pet trade (mothers are killed and the babies taken) and the general human/wildlife conflict. The sanctuary provides food shelter and vital TLC that the orphans would normally get from their mothers. The aim being to rehabilitate their charges so they can eventually be released into protected areas of the forest to live out their lives in the wild where they should be. Please look at the video (hope it's working, justgiving have had a few problems with the videos).

This is going to be a bit different to my usual walk with the dogs on the North Downs, but the thought of all the money we are raising will help take my mind off the mosquitoes leeches and other creepy crawlies that are out to get me !!!! I shall be so grateful for your generous support. THANK YOU

Only 5 days to go now, raring to go, training has gone well, just hoping I have done enough !! Fundraising has been fantastic, what an extraordinary effort from everyone, thank you so much. There is still room for more donations if you would like to support me, I am not proud I'll take anything little or large !!! Many thanks, Gillian
