My story

As many of you know, this August I'll be swapping my handbag for a rather large rucksack, and beginning a long slow trek up Mount Kenya.

Mount Kenya is the highest mountain in Kenya and second highest in Africa (after Kilimanjaro). The highest peak towers at 5,199 metres (17,058 ft). Our 5 day trek involves foregoing all home comforts - so that's no showering, no toilets, wearing long johns and balaclava’s, eating porridge breakfasts, and camping in pretty chilly conditions... the night time temp near the summit falls to at least -10˚C.

I’m hoping to raise money in support of Sewa International, a fantastic charity dedicated to providing humanitarian aid in poverty stricken areas. Details of past projects are included below - definitely worth a read. The 2006 Kilimanjaro Trek managed to raise a whopping £61,858, so the bar has certainly been set high!

All donations big or small will be gratefully received. Donating through Just Giving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to Sewa International and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Just Giving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid is added to your donation.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thanks, Gina

The money you donate goes directly to projects like these:

Medical Aid Projects (Mombasa): Eye-operations were funded to help those with visual impairment and help restore the sight of many, giving them personal independence and a new lease of life.

Conservation Aid Projects (Ndyaka Dam): The purchase, planting and nurturing of tree saplings in the forest conservation area.

Water Aid Projects (Famine area): Construction of Bore-Wells in rural areas where people face extreme hardship obtaining clean water. The village communities were trained to maintain the hand pumps to ensure fair & sustainable water supply.

Food Aid Projects (Kenya): Distribution of emergency medical aid & food supply was funded to elevate hardship and human suffering. The project helped save lives of the most vulnerable in the communities- the children, the old & the sick.

Social Welfare Projects: Funding was provided for acquisition of portable tractors to help yield better crops and achieve self sufficiency for the families in the farming communities in Kenya.

Education Aid Projects (Nairobi): Providing bursary to impoverished students in Jamhuri High School Bright students facing financial hardship, often as a result of losing one or both parents, are helped through this scheme to continue and complete their education.
