London Bikeathon 2010 · 27 June 2010 ·

We're dedicated to beating blood cancer. We fund research and support those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. The day we beat blood cancer is now in sight and our researchers are determined to finish the job.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Over the last 3 years I have raised just over £12,500 so this year should hopefully mean breaking the £15,000 mark for Leukaemia Research which is going to be fantastic as they are celebrating their 50th year.

This years ride will take place on the 27th June. I have decided to do the 52 mile ride again and aim for less than 4 hours this year.  Hopefully this year with your help I can reclaim the title as Highest Individual Fundraiser.

Every year I have tried to raise the bar and make it harder. The first year I cycled 26 miles, last year I doubled it to 52 miles this year I am aiming for a lower time. This years training has been affected by a throat problem I have had so I have not been able to train as much and I will be glad if I can just finish in a slightly quicker time than last year.

When I was growing up my 2 biggest loves wereCrystal Palace and Rock music. The Palace player who will always be a hero to me is Geoff Thomas and will always be remembered as the Captain who led them out in one of the most exciting FA cup finals ever.

My favorite band was The Almighty whose excellent bass player was Floyd London.  It was Floyd and The Almighty's fantastic music that got me into rock music in the first place. I have had the privilege to meet Floyd and he is one of the nicest guys I have ever met and he has even sponsored me.

Unfortunately they both of these great men got diagnosed with leukaemia within a fairly short time apart. Fortunately they have both battled through it and both are doing a lot of charity work for Leukaemia Research. Geoff has done lots of cycling challenges including cycling the route of the Tour De France and has arrange a few charity football matches which have been a great fun. Floyd has got the Almighty back together to do some charity gigs which were fantastic. Since they have given me so much enjoyment in my life I thought it was about time I gave something back

Thank you
