The girls are back to run the Windsor 8k again!  We enjoyed the experience so much last year, so we thought why not do it again?  We are running to raise money for "Making it Better", a charity set up to fund research into Microvillus Atrophy.

The Windsor 8k is a ladies only race in Windsor Great Park on September 26th.  Not too long a distance you might say.  Well for a seasoned runner then no it should be just like a walk in the park, but not many of us are seasoned runners! So 8 km seems a safe enough distance not to kill us but show we're willing to don the dusty trainers and running shorts and prove there's life in the old legs still!

So, why are we doing this?  We're doing this for my children, Jacob and Charlotte, who were diagnosed last year with this terrible condition and for Jo Courtney's son Daniel, who suffered from Microvillous Atrophy and very sadly died in April 2005 at the age of 16 months after a multi organ transplant. Also for other people and their families diagnosed with this devastating condition, who need help, guidance and information.

If you can, please help to spur us on by making a donation to the 'Making it Better' Charity.  Any contributions will really mean a lot to us and will go towards much needed research into Microvillous Atrophy.

There's lots more information about the 'Making it Better' Charity at www.makingitbetter.org.uk so please take a look. Also please consider signing up to the NHS Organ Donor Register - there are thousands of children and adults waiting for a life-saving transplant, but for many their wait will be in vain due to a desperate shortage of donors.

Thank you so much for looking at our fundraising page and lending us your support!!  Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Making it Better - The Daniel Courtney Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

30th August 2009 Update

We've hit our £1000 target already! How fantastic and thank you to everyone so far for all the marvellous donations.   Training is going well.  Summer holidays are almost over so the girls will be knuckling down and hitting the streets even more.  We've had a couple of injuries, the knees and hips aren't like they used to be! Two ladies have had to pull out, but Helen Lawson has agreed to plug the gap.  Thank you Helen!

So the question is have you ever seen 15 ladies running with tutus?  Well you will if you come along on 26th September to the run at Windsor Great Park.  Maybe I'll post some pictures of tutu clad ladies on the justgiving page.

Watch this space!

PS I've upped the target to £2000! Go girls, girl power making it better!

29th September 2009 Update

We made it! Hooray!  Well the sun was shining and everyone was very excited.  Thank you to all the girls for all your hard work, dedication and for collecting such a fantastic amount of sponsorship money. To all our supporters, thank you so much for all the donations, and thanks to all those who cheered us there on the day and handed out all those leaflets! I can honestly say I had the best of days.  It was definitely hard work running in that heat, but was so worthwhile. Kathy x
