Story

On the 12th August 2001, I lost my first son Jack, to a serious heart condition called 'Tetralogy of Fallot'. He was only 7 months old. During his very short life, the specialist paediatric care that Jack received at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester was everything I could have ever wished for. Ever since then, I have wanted so much to give something back to the hospital that did everything they could, to give Jack the very best possible treatment and care whilst he was alive. My hope and dream was to purchase some new equipment for the Glenfield Hospital's, Children's Cardiology Department to help make the lives of the children that are cared for there, easier and more comfortable.

Two years ago, I organised a 'Charity Auction Night' in Jack's memory and was amazed on this evening to have raised almost £6,000, and last year we raised over £2,000 by hosting a 'Medieval Banquet' and 'Family Festive Disco'. Every penny of this money raised has now been spent on a brand new 'State of the Art Out-Put Heart Monitor' that is in situ and being used in the PICU (Peadiactric Intensive Care Unit) at the Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. This monitor was something that the staff in the PICU desperately wanted.

My hope is to continue fundraising for this charity in my son's memory. This year I have set a challenge to myself, my partner and my children to swim the distance of the Channel (22 miles) on Friday 22nd July. This will be taking place at our local 'Nuffield Health Club'.

Please would you help us to raise more funds for this very worthy cause by sponsoring us for this event or by donating on-line! We would be so grateful for any support you could give us in making this fund raising appeal a great success. Thankyou so much for taking the time to donate to this charity in Jack's memory.

Nikki Olorenshaw
