Story

We completed the Great Lakelend Challenge alive!   We declared our fund raising total at £12,001.01 which won us the Ford Ranger Funding Raising Bowl (for most funds raised).   Our time of 8 hours 55 minutes combined with the total earnt us 2nd place overall (out of 26 teams).   Our Ford sponsored Galaxy was also awarded best dressed vehicle (thanks to Sean at Broad Signs and Ben Davis for the logo caricatures).

We are proud to be raising money for the Wooden Spoon and delighted to have been supported by so many people.   THANK YOU.  Please continue to generously help us raise money for young people far less fortunate than ourselves by donating and ensuring we can also claim gift aid on your pledge.

Weather was good at 0730 for the start of the race on race day (11/9/09).   We paddled the length of Lake Windermere in 1 hour 58 minutes - finishing in 3rd place.   We ran to the transition area (400 meters), changed into cycling gear and checked out for the cycle section in the lead.   The transition took only 7 minutes!   Now the sun was up and the temperature started to rise!   We cycled over Wrynose and Hardknott Passes with just the one puncture slowing us down (time tbc).   Another swift transition and we set of to climb up and over Scafell Pike.   With the sun at it's meridian we were burning up as we climbed.   Fortunately with altitude the temperature dropped and after the ascent we began the grueling, jarring, knee crunching decent into the Langdale valley.   Knowing a bar, BBQ and massure awaited us at the finish line (time tbc) we pressed on home and crossed the line exhausted but happy to be almost in one piece!
