Lowe Syndrome Sicily Bike Ride · 28 February 2009

The Lowe Syndrome Charity is run by parents for medical research for Lowe Syndrome (& Dent's disease) families. Babies are born with multiple symptoms including cataracts in both eyes, failure to thrive, weak muscles and bones, kidney problems, cysts & autism.

Story

This year I am joining a sponsored bike ride in very hilly Sicily which will cover about 250 miles in four days , all of which I plan to complete.

Since I did the bike ride in aid of the Lowe Syndrome Trust last year, I have learnt a lot more about this incurable disease and in particular about Lorraine and Oscar.

I am lucky and have two healthy sons but my heart goes out to the parents of young children with life threatening illnesses like Lowe Syndrome.

Lorraine is one of them and the positive side was that she had the courage and determination to fight this disease and set up the charity, the Lowe Syndrome Trust, that now raise funds to fight Lowe Syndrome, a genetic disorder that effects boys like her son with multiple, physical and mental handicaps.

Her son Oscar is now aged 14 but was diagnosed with glaucoma last year and was most recently diagnosed as autistic. Every day is special as Lorraine considers Oscar to be one of the luckier ones to have survived this long.

So please help in any way you can , as every little bit helps !! Not only does your support help research into this disease that effects innocent children out there, it may God forbid be needed by someone close to you one day.
