Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

Get Kids Going! helps disabled children take part in sport by providing specialist sports wheelchairs, sports grants and year round support. They can then compete in marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, skiing, rugby, basketball etc. With your help, many could become Paralympic champions and world record holders.

Story

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gareth Mate and I'm a Deputy Head teacher at Crossdale Drive Primary School in Nottinghamshire.

In April 2010 I hope to compete and complete the Virgin London Marathon.

This will be my second attempt at the London Marathon, after completing the event in 2006.

In 2010 I will be hoping to run well and possibly improve on my previous time. I will also be running for my chosen charity of Get Kids Going, which is a national charity providing disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 yrs - the wonderful opportunity of participating in sport.

As a very keen sportsman I feel I will be raising money for a very worthy cause and your kind donations will help promote sports for disabled children by providing them with specially built sports’ wheelchairs so they can do marathons, triathlons, tennis, athletics, mountain skiing, rugby, basketball etc.

Get Kids Going! also helps and encourages British disabled children to compete by supporting them with their sports; training, physiotherapy, travel, design and development of sports’ wheelchairs. With your help many could become record holders and Paralympic champions!

I have set myself a target to raise £2,000 and maybe more if that becomes possible. As a sports mad teacher I want to help make a difference to the lives of young people less fortunate than me. I personally feel it is important to recognise all children should be given the opportunity to participate in many kinds of activities and enjoy new experiences without being inhibited with barriers.

So please help me along the way, sponsor me now and help me to make a difference.

Many sincere thanks for all your support.
