My personal message:

Hello, I'm taking part in the Boston Marathon on April 21st. It's the world's oldest marathon and one of the most taxing with plenty of hills along its 26 and a bit miles.

I won't actually be RUNNING in the marathon, though. That would be stupid. I'm far too fat to do that. I get short of breath just walking to the shops for chocolate and crisps. I'd DIE.

What I will be doing instead is standing in the crowd near the finish line shouting encouragement to the competitors as they pass. Which is a very important role and one that equates to 'taking part' in a very real sense, I'm sure you'll agree.

So please sponsor me to WATCH (not run) the Boston Marathon.
