Story

Sponsor Gordon & Tana to complete the London Marathon with Dr Margo Whiteford, Chair of the Scottish Spina Bifida Association and Deborah Roe, Head of Fundraising, to help raise vital funds for the Charity's Specialist Support Team.

I first met Dr Margo Whiteford, Chairman of the Association at the start line of the Great North Run in 2002. Margo, who has spina bifida, was about to compete in the wheel chair race. I had been at the line complaining about a sore knee and suddenly I became aware of how small my problems were compared to trying to complete 13 miles in a wheelchair. Margo wrote to me shortly afterwards and asked me to become Honorary Patron of the Association, which I instantly agreed to. I then went on to meet some of the children affected by the condition. I was immediately humbled by what they, and their families, overcome on a daily basis. They climb a mountain every day.

To celebrate Margo’s 50th birthday and my tenth marathon, Tana, Margo, Deborah and I are completing the 26.2 mile gruelling London Marathon to raise much needed funds for the Association's Specialist Support Team.

The charity need to raise over £850k every year to keep supporting everyone who needs help. Margo will be competing in the wheelchair race and it’s her first ever marathon, but she is determined to beat my best time of 3hrs 40mins - it’s going to be a heated competition.  Who’s your money on?

Leave a message of support and please be as generous as you can
