Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!
As a fund raiser I am aiming to cycle over 1000 miles in little over three days whilst competing in the annual 'Race Across the West'. I am hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK and have set myself the goal of £10'000.
I was introduced to this race in June 2008 after volunteering to be a crew member for an American solo cyclist (Tim Case) during his charity race across America (www.teamstrongheart.org). Tim was able to raise money for children with congenital heart conditions and I have been inspeired to do the same.
The Race Across the West is one of the most difficult endurance races in the world. The route begins at Oceanside, Calfornia and quickly leads riders into desert and then over the Rocky Mountains. The race finishes at Taos and I aim to complete the race with as little as one-two hours sleep per night. As well as keeping a positive mental attitude and combating sleep deprivation, one of the greatest challenges that I will have to overcome is maintaining a positive energy balance.
I will attempt to fund as much of this event as possible and will compile a full list of expenses.
With thanks,
Gordon Shaw
