Story
My dear loyal sponsors,
well, I did it! On Sunday 6 August I completed my first Olympic distance triathlon in a total time of 2 hours 46 minutes and 17 seconds, which blasted my target of 3 hours out of the water!
I’d just like to say a big “thank you” again to all of you who have helped me raise just over £500 for Cancer Research UK, their work really is worthwhile and hopefully the cash you’ve donated will go some way to making a difference to someone’s life somewhere.
Before I sign off, a few points from the day that have stuck with me:
1. The marathon is sponsored by Flora, the London Tri is sponsored by a beer: now that’s cool.
2. 500 people in identical swimming hats splashing around in a London dockyard is something that needs to be seen to be believed
3. I never thought you could fit so much lycra into one place without destroying the very fabric of time – apparently you can!
Thanks again guys and gals, and if you want a picture of me in action, then I’ll be willing to release the photos if you ask nicely!
Tom “Stavros the Greek” Bates aka the Hoff.

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to visit the site and donate some of your hard-earned dosh. I'm running the London Triathlon in August which will involve a 1500m swim in Victoria Dock (mmmm, nice!), a 40km bike ride and a cheeky 10km run to finish off. (That's 0.9 miles/25 miles/6.25 miles for all of you "pounds and ounces" types.)
I thought this might also be a good opportunity to raise some well-deserved cash for Cancer Research UK, considering that one in three of us will be affected by cancer at some point (a grim yet eye-opening statistic). Cancer Reseach UK is a very worthy cause so I'd ask you all to be as generous as you can afford to be - plus you can get back at the tax man: if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you courtesy of the Inland Revenue!!
So dig deep you lot, and get donating - I'll keep you all posted of how things go and who knows, there may even be a picture or two of me in a wetsuit floating around the web for the highest bidder!
Thanks for your support, it means alot to me, and more than that to the guys who'll benefit from Cancer Research UK's work!
Lots of love
