Hello! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I ran the marathon for Little Haven Children's Hospice who are located a few miles from Southend in Essex. Little Havens Children's Hospice provides respite breaks, symptom control and end-of-life care for youngsters living with serious conditions and who are not expected to reach adulthood.
I completed the London Marathon in 4 hours 45 minutes. I would like to say that I enjoyed every minute of it but it was a bit warm and I was very glad to cross the finishing line! The good thing about the warm weather was the fantastic crowd cheering you on all the way round, and I was very glad to see friends and family at various points along the way. It really does make a big difference seeing people that you know - many thanks for cheering me on. I was a little bit disappointed to not get closer to or under 4 1/2 hours but 4:45 was only 5 minutes slower than the predicted time that I calculated 3 weeks before. Here's me just before 20 miles.
And yes - that first pint of lager in The Golden Crane on Sunday afternoon tasted wonderful!
I was so full of marathon cheer on Tuesday morning that I entered the ballot for a place in the 2010 marathon, which just goes to prove that I really am mad.
I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking you once again for kindly sponsoring me and helping me raise money for Little Haven Children's Hospice. I am over the moon with how generous everyone has been and it really does make all the long training runs and the pain on the day seem worthwhile.
Many thank again,
Barney / Graeme
