Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
It's 10 years since I left Glasgow for London, and in this my testimonial year I've decided to give something back to "The Big Smoke". So I'm running the London marathon with a mate, Neil who moved down with me back in 1999. (Click here to see Neil's fundraising page)
It's almost a kind of social experiment: Take 2 Scottish lads, hailing from the european capital of heart disease, make them give up drink for 16 weeks and run 26 miles at the end of it all. Who knows how it will turn out...
For the past 5 years I've watched the runners go past from my flat in docklands, or from a nearby beer garden(!) so figured it's only fair that I swap places for once. It can't be that hard, can it?!
Besides, it will make the beer taste so much sweeter in 2010 when I'm back where I belong watching others suffer the marathon from the safety of the bar!
The charity we're running for is called Bag Books. They create Multi-Sensory story packs for children and adults with profound learning disablities. These stories are stimulating and interactive and help educate people that don't normally get the chance. (see www.bagbooks.org )
For just £230, Bag Books can create a story pack for a special school which would put smiles on the faces of 23 children. For £2000 they can run a day of storytelling and training for a community library.
My running mate Neil's mum (recently retired) used to teach autistic kids, so we know just how positive an effect charities like Bag Books can have.
I'm extremely proud to be able to make a difference, and this is your chance to as well.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bag Books gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
(Regardless of the size of your pledge, both Bag Books and I would like to say thanks, it really is appreciated)
Graeme.
