Story

Post Walk up-date

We did it !  Perhaps I shouldn't sound so surprised, but both Graham and I enjoyed ourselves and got round in good order, either side of 3 hours.  Personally, I could have done without walking round the Victory, but we got to see the banner that we had made in Colin's memory - along with 2,248 other people.  There's no doubt that the tremendous support we received really helped - so thank you to everyone who has made a donation and everyone who wished us well.

Of course, it was all about helping the Rowans and the people they help: the thought that everyone on Saturday had the same reason for being there was very sobering.   On the night they announced that £250,000 had already been raised - if you haven't made a donation, please do so to help take that over £300,000.

3rd update

Couldn't  let the last weekend before the big event come and go without saying again how humbled we are by the response we have received - yes, you could take us to £1,000 and beyond.  Where to now?  Please give as much as you can, as the Rowans really needs our help.

The Portsmouth News have asked if they can include Colin's story as one of a series of pieces in the run-up to the Walk.  Of course, we said yes and here is the quote from Graham that we gave them:

‘I remember one of the Rowans’ volunteers being so excited that the famousColin Whitewas there – and of course, this gave Colin a great lift, too.  I know that he loved his room and the beautiful view.  This and the care of the staff were a great comfort to him and to his family and loved ones.’

‘One of our sponsors described Colin and the Rowans as ‘two great Portsmouth institutions’ and that is why we are taking on this challenge.’

2nd Update

We're gobsmacked by the response!  Thank you very much to everyone who has sponsored us so far.  Of course, this is to do with Colin and the Rowans - so if you haven't made a donation yet, please do so.  Can you take the total to £1,000?

Apparently, there are the same number of people walking this year as last (about 2,000) - but 80% of us are first-timers.  So what do the rest of last year's lot know ...?

UPDATE

Wow, we've passed our target already and still two weeks to go.  But please keep giving - last year's walk raised 10% of the Rowans annual revenue and they need the money more than ever this year.  Read below why it is so important to us

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

As colleagues at the Royal Naval Museum, we are walking 12 miles along the seafront here in Portsmouth from midnight on 21st June in memory of Colin White, our Director, who tragically passed away in the Rowans Hospice on Christmas Day 2008.

The Rowans Hospice deserves -and needs - our help.  Last year's Moonlit Walk  raised a staggering £325,000: please help us to help exceed that.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Rowans Hospice gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
