Earlier this year my wife Christine was diagnosed with Breast Cancer; during the course of her treatment at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital we were introduced to the excellent cancer support charity FORCE.
They provide numerous services to both patients and carers alike which we've found most useful during this trying time. Like all charities they are constantly in need of funds and I feel I should to do my bit to help.
A few years ago after after quitting smoking I started running and set myself a target of completing a half marathon before I'm 45yrs old and I'm now a year shy of that milestone.
As it seems sensible to link the two desires I'll be running the New Forest Half Marathon on Sunday 21st Sept 2008 to raise funds for FORCE.
Having never run more than 6miles previously, I tried to do some training and succeeded in straining just about every muscle in my right leg and achilles in the left.
Undeterred - well perhaps a bit - the race is still on, so please wish me luck and sponsor my attempt.
My employers - Barclays Global Investors - run a gift matching scheme whereby they will make a matching donation to funds raised - up to a £600 limit. They've been fabulous about time off for hospital appts and working from home after treatments etc but lets try and sting them for the full £600!
Thanks Graham
