Story
Sunday 19 June 2005 will see Stoller and Frodders take on 208 KM of Italian mountain passes for their next madcap cycling expedition; this time in aid of Leonard Cheshire, the UK-based disability charity with 250 services worldwide.
Despite sounding like a large and rather delicious ice-cream, the 'Campagnolo Gran Fondo' is Italy's premiere amateur cycling race. After departing the small hill-town of Feltre, the route snakes its way up some of Italy's most fabled mountain passes - The Passo Rolle, Cima Campo and the near-vertical Passo Manghen. On their return the boys will have clocked up a massive 15,000 feet of climbing - that's almost the height of Mount Kilimanjaro!
Training has started in earnest - through sleet, snow and any other element the great British weather opts to throw at them. Forget the day-glow Lycra and wrap-around cycle shades, thermals tights and gloves are very much the order of the day. The coming months will be spent slogging up Box Hill, through the Black Mountains and along the Gospel Pass in Hay on Wye.
To celebrate, the boys will host a one-off Gran Fondo party on their return - details to follow soon!
Go on - dig deep and be generous! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Leonard Cheshire will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
