Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In May 2010 I am running the Edinburgh Marathon to raise funds for Headway Fife, part of the Headway organisation.

Headway Fife is a charitable organisation which offers support to people who have sustained a brain injury from: a road traffic accident, assault, fall, sporting injury, haemorrhage, infection (e.g. meningitis, encephalitis or brain abscess), or metabolic e.g. impaired oxygen flow to the brain, which may result after a cardiac arrest.

Any form of brain injury can be traumatic. Even a relatively minor injury can cause major changes to the way a person functions on a day-to-day basis. Headway Fife exists to help all those involved come to terms with the changes which can occur and to offer support and advice to the injured and those who hold them dear.

All funds will be used to allow Headway Fife to organise an activity centre for people who have sustained brain injuries. The Calvert Trust in Keswick Cumbria is a fabulous facility set in the Lake District that caters exclusively for people with disabilities.  The facility offers people the opportunity to be involved in a whole range of activities that they would otherwise never have the opportunity to do.

By focusing on challenging disability through outdoor adventure, a visit to the Calvert Trust is not just about fun, it's about developing personal skills that can be taken into everyday life, including:
- building self-confidence
- gaining independence
- making new friends
- acquiring new hobbies and skills.

Each visit provides the opportunity to try something new in a safe and caring environment. By pushing these boundaries with the support of our instructors, visitors feel more comfortable about trying new things at home

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.  The more I raise, the more people Headway Fife can send to the Calvert Trust.

Many thanks
