We are going to take part in The Big Fun Run in Edinburgh on the 5th of October in aid of The Equine Grass Sickness Fund

Grass sickness is a disease that affects all type of horses, ponies and donkeys; it remains the most important cause of mortality affecting grazing horses in, being responsible for the death of an estimated 600 horses per annum. It is a devastating disease first seen in 1907 and it remains one of the great unsolved mysteries, and consequently one of the most feared by horse owners.

Until recently the mortality rate for chronic cases was approaching 100%. The experience gained atEdinburghUniversityVeterinarySchool has increased the survival rate for selected chronic cases to approximately 70%. Effected horses require 24hr intensive nursing care, constant human contact and the feeding of palatable, easily chewed, high-energy food.

The Equine Grass Sickness Fund  is dedicated to supporting and advancing research into grass sickness and further improving the treatment of chronic cases while not only providing the support and advice to owners.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us to help the charity.  The Equine Grass Sickness Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now so horses such as Udale Poppy (shown in the picture above) can make a full recovery and go on to live a happy and healthy life.  Udale Poppy also known as 'Poppy Popstar' owned by Jenny Henderson has made a full recovery, is back to her normal weight and has successfully competed in the show ring since
