Well we made it in 2hrs, 27mins, 9secs, and a very special thank you to all of you who so kindly supported us, both financially, physically and in spirit. The sun shone (as it does each and every time we run with you Rachel!), and the setting was perfect. Saturday was great fun watching our own, and thousands of other children run their hearts out along the banks of the Tyne - well done to you all, and what fun you had doing it. Sunday was an amazing day. We felt honoured to be taking part in such an event with so many inspirational people. Although we trained religiously, none of us were quite prepared for it being literally an 'uphill struggle'! And to pinch an expression from another fundraiser, every aching muscle was worth every penny raised!
Once again a huge thank you from all of us xxx (kisses from the girls)
Back in 2006, not long after one of our closest friends was diagnosed with MND, an intrepid group of us cycled across the country to raise funds and awareness for MNDA, an all too often underfunded and wonderful charity. Three years on it's time for us to put our bodies to the test again, only this time we will be pushing our close friend Rachel in a wheelchair around the testing 13 miles of the Great North Run on 20th September 09. Our children will also be taking part in the Family Run on the same weekend, so please support us all you can.
Rachel's story says it all!
My name is Rachel, I am 41 years old and I was diagnosed with MND 5 yrs ago. At that time it felt like somebody had pulled the plug on my life, I had two beautiful boys, age two and five, who I so desperately wanted to see grow up, and my lovely husband who had just been told his wife was terminally ill. For those who know me my hobbies were riding horses, running, walking and generally being outdoors. Life was mentally grim on David and myself for a while until my perspective on life changed greatly – for the better! Now here we are in 2009 counting myself very fortunate to be alive and surrounded by an amazingly, happy, loving family and some of the kindest, understanding friends anyone could want. I can no longer do a lot of the practical things I used to be able to do and we, as a family, have received invaluable help and support from the MNDA. Therefore, we wish to raise as much money as we can so that other people may benefit from this amazing Charity –
PLEASE DIG DEEP! We will run our socks off for it.
