GREAT NORTH RUN 2009 - LIFEGUARDS TEAM
We're taking part in the Great North Run on 20 September 2009 in Newcastle to raise money for the RNLI and we'ld really appreciate your support.
We have set ourselves a fundraising target of £10,000 and hope to reach this by organising fundraising events and sponsorship. The funds you raise will directly benefit the RNLI Lifeguards and help assist the rollout of lifeguards in the North and support the RNLI Life First campaign.
The Great North Run is the world's biggest and famous half marathon.

Why give money to the RNLI?
- The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifesaving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland. It receives no government funding and relies totally on donations for funding.
- In 2008 there were 9,536 RNLI Lifeguard incidents, with 35 lives saved and 11,027 people aided.
- It costs around £70,000 to run one lifeguard unit each year
- Since the RNLI was founded in 1824 its lifeboats and lifeguards have saved more than 137,000 lives
The RNLI operates 141 lifeguard units in England and Wales, and employs 722 seasonal lifeguards. The RNLI lifeguard service operates a fleet of inshore rescue boats, rescue watercraft and four-wheel drive vehicles, with each lifeguard unit equipped with rescue boards, rescue tubes, first aid kits, defibrillators and various other items of essential lifesaving equipment.
