It's 2009. The Olympic Games is still 3 years away.
But wait... What's this? A crack team of incredible atheletes are competing for the ultimate distance running prize?
No... no, that isn't happening......but it is the return of The Great Valley Run!
This event has grown exponentially since it's inception in 2005, raising some heavy cash for the wonderful Pilgrims Hospice based in Canterbury. The Hospice care for people with illnesses that can not be cured including cancer, heart failure, respiratory conditions and neurological diseases and they do it amazingly. To keep delivering care to those that need it the most, Pilgrims Hospice has to raise £8 million each year. So any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference.
Like the years preceding, we will be running a 10km course, while the walkers will complete their 5km course starting and finishing from the Mermaid Pub in Bishopsbourne in the great British Tradition of wearing ridiculous costumes and clothing on the coldest of winter days!
10k is a very long distance after two days of eating turkey. Believe it.
We'll be starting the run on the 12th hour (that's, er, 12 midday) if you fancy joining us but if you can't make it feel free to leave your email address when you donate and we'll send you the usually disturbing/hilarious photos.
Looking forward to seeing as many there as possible!!
