This page gives information about Grecians East's fundraising drive...

From 20 February – 29 March 2012 we will be running

MILES FOR MILES

Miles McCulloch (Grecians East, Christ's Hospital) has been undergoing treatment in the Royal Marsden Hospital. In the second half of term members of the house are going to pound the paths around the school to prepare for the school steeplechase and to raise money for this very worthwhile cause.

Pupils can do their miles in a variety of ways and can build a total of miles over the weeks leading up to the steeplechase. The genuinely athletic can count their training runs (routes around the school grounds are measured). Gym-bunnies can count their time on the treadmills. And even those whose idea of a country walk involves a stop-off in the bushes can wheeze their way around the mile a couple of times a week. Miles will be added up at the end of each week and the final numbers reached on the evening of the steeplechase, 29 March.

This is not just a pupil event - the houseparents and their family are all running too. We are hoping to raise a good sum to say a big THANK YOU to the Royal Marsden for the excellent care and support Miles has been receiving since he went into hiospital on Christmas Eve. And all being well he should emerge at the end of his chemotherapy just as we reach the end of our road...

I am adding this note on Monday 5th March 2012: Miles is a member of Christ's Hospital's famous marching band. At the band concert, held yesterday, bandmaster Terry Whittingham made an excellent appeal on behalf of our fundraising drive and I am pleased to say that no less that £593.88 was collected at the end of the concert. So the running total does not reflect the full picture.

A further note added at the end of our running. Grecians East ran over 2500 miles during the five weeks of the campaign and our friends in Grecians West added another 500. So Grecians together have run 3000 miles in totla!
