At Princess Alice Hospice, we provide exceptional end of life care in our hospice and in the community. We know we can’t prevent death, but we do whatever we possibly can to make it the best it possibly can be. But, above all, we believe that hospice care is for living.

Story

*Update - the day after* - After a rubbish night's sleep and waking up with the snuffles and the news that Bea Arthur had died (Greg's a big golden girls fan), this didn't bode well. But the weather was lovely - warm and bright - and we headed down to Greenwich. We were kicking off at different startlines so we said our (slightly emotional) goodbyes and walked away. We were both well-placed and so didn't need to wait long to get started. We both had strong first-halfs of the race, Craig had serious problems from Mile 17 onwards - and the spare time he'd built up gradually drained away. Greg slowed a bit too, but kept going at a strong pace and managed an amazing time of 3 hours 30 mins. Craig got 4 hours 6 mins, a PB by some distance. Today we can't walk and it takes 5 minutes to get up the stairs at home - sideways. Thanks so much for your sponsorship - our aim for £2.5k has been smashed and we've almost raised £3k. Both of us really appreciate your contribution and support - you've paid for a number of nights at the hospice for people who really need it. Now - where are those hefty painkillers?

*Update - the night before* - We've been and got our race numbers, and tapered our running (a bit too suddenly, we reckon). Nothing more we can do now, so we're laying out all our kit ready for tomorrow and going to have a pasta dinner. Thanks to everyone who's sponsored us - your contributions, of all sizes, all came at just the right time to meet the target. In fact you didn't just meet it - you blasted it to pieces. Which means we can start tomorrow morning at 9.45 knowing that you did your bit for the hospice. We just need to do our bit now. Thanks from both of us, and thanks from the hospice too. See you at the other end!

*Update - 1 week to go* - 6 days of rest and then it's D-day. We're both more nervous now than we've been, but to all intents and purposes now is the time we have to stop and relax. No more running allowed, so that we're fully primed at 9.45am next Sunday morning. If you're coming down to the marathon, do email us so we can send you a swishy map with the places to go (and the parts to avoid). Dosh-wise we are £105 away from our target of £2,500, so we're not far off - just 4% short of our aim. With luck we might even hit the target before the starter's pistol - so if you can bludgeon any friends and relatives to help us then please feel free!

*Update - 3rd April* - If you're sponsored us and checking back on how we're doing, welcome back. Training (and fund-raising) time is fast running out! Our training schedule has been all over the shop. Lots of runs, but not enough long ones to make either of us feel confident. As the marathon draws nearer, Greg's done a few more longer runs and mileage but now neither us can wait til it's over. To get our lives back, and be able to relax without worrying that we should be donning our trainers and beating the street, will be amazing. See you on the finish line by hook or by crook - and with a nice drink in hand, please.

Thanks for stopping by on our fund-raising website. We need your help! We're trying our damnedest to raise a pile of cash to help support Princess Alice Hospice, a wonderful place that exists on about thruppence a year. Only 25% of its income comes from the NHS, the rest is made up of donations from people like you and us - and donations have recently dried up.

The hospice is a charity that we know well, as they looked after Greg's Dad Finlay brilliantly in 2007.

To persuade you to part with your cash at this time of economic hoo-ha, we decided to run 26.2 miles across London. So we're doing our bit - now all you have to do is think about whether you can spare a few quid. We promised to raise £2,500 and we've already made huge progress, so please help us get closer to our target by race-day. It would be a huge boost to be poised at the start line, knowing that we had met the target we set ourselves back last year.

Justgiving is a good way to donate, as Gift Aid means that the Government will add 25% to every £1 you pledge.

Everyone's feeling the pinch at the moment, so it would be particularly fab if you felt you could help us support the hospice which is looking after people going through the toughest times of all.
