Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page which I have set up to raise money for The British Heart Foundation (BHF).
As many of you will know, my husband, Greig Cowan, died suddenly of a heart attack, aged only 53, on 14th July 2009. The post mortem revealed that he died of Ischeamic Heart Disease caused by a blockage of the coronary arteries. The coroner explained that this condition is often known as "The Silent Killer", as like many others who die of this condition, Greig had appeared fit and well, and shown no symptoms before he died.
On Tuesday 28th July we held his funeral and celebrated his life with a fantastic gathering of friends and family and some lovely tributes and readings. We then went on to a reception where we raised many glasses of wine and London Pride, his favourite beer, and shared happy memories of time spent with him. I am confident we all gave him the send off he deserved.
For those of you unable to be at the service we made a very sensitive recording of the ceremony and have since incorported many lovely photos of Greig at work and play to create a wonderful visual tribute to Greig and his life. This is available to be viewed on line until 11th November via the following website: www.greigcowantribute.webeden.co.uk . [ It starts with a brief introduction from me, after which please click on the link to “Greig’s Tribute”. Once it starts to play I suggest you hit the pause button in the bottom left hand corner of the screen and allow the data to upload (you will see a red horizontal line moving to the right). Once that gets about half way across you are probably safe to hit the play button and see the video through (it takes an hour) without it buffering.]
Since his death Joe (17), Kate (14) and I have been overwhelmed by the support offered from friends and family all over the world, and the generosity of the support to the British Heart Foundation via this website - Thank you.
If you have not yet had the chance, I do hope that you will feel moved to make a donation, and leave a short message in memory of Greig. Anything that you can give will support the BHF's vital research and work, and help to prevent other people suffering from heart disease; or, like Greig, dying suddenly from heart failure, and the consequent grief and pain for those they leave behind.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - We raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Thank you so much for your gift. I know that Greig would have been delighted to know that his death has had some positive impact by raising funds to help others live longer and suffer less in the future.
