Why are we raising money for Little Hearts Matters (LHM)?... Because some friends of ours have very real, personal reasons for being immensely grateful to LHM and its wonderful team, so we wanted to help out. Gill and Peter’s son Michael (pictured) was born with severe congenital heart disease; a rare condition known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, or HLHS. This means that the left side of the heart doesn’t work properly, and is such an acute condition that children born with it can’t survive without several stages of surgery to the heart; starting within days of birth.

The hospital immediately put them in touch with LHM, the charity that supports all children with single ventricle conditions, and LHM has supported them ever since; through Michael's three surgical procedures, and through adjusting to having a child with this condition  LHM provides information, meetings and practical help; through helplines, newsletters, literature, web services, events and get-togethers; services for the kids and for their families. They are an absolute lifeline for families with a heart child.

The Grey Friars team of Doneil Macleod, Peter Williams, Rachael Magill and Colm Cunningham are taking part in the Edinburgh Rat Race 19/20th July 08. The Rat Race involves running, cycling, canoeing, abseiling and   surprise events. Sponsorship is for the team to undertake as many of the tasks over the 2 days as health and age permit!.
