Whilst some may choose to cycle from London to Brighton and others may decide to compete in the London marathon (both admirable choices), I have decided to go one (or maybe several) steps further and participate in the 2005 Marathon des Sables. The Marathon des Sables is a six day ultra-marathon endurance race across the Sahara Desert; known as the toughest footrace on earth. Over the course of six days I will run 151 miles with about 30 miles of the race taking place over sand dunes. I will be running in temperatures of up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit and am required to carry everything that I will need for the duration of the race on my back. I will undoubtedly suffer from blisters and will more than likely lose most of the skin on my feet in the process!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Médecins Sans Frontières UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Much of the pain and suffering ahead will be softened by the knowledge that I have undertaken this challenge for a good cause. So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

Good Luck John, after all your hard work and training you deserve to do so well. Donation by Jaime Jones on 02/03/05
