[New York Telegraph] ELITE ATHLETE DAVID GRIFFITHS ANNOUNCES BID TO WIN THE NEW YORK CITY TRIATHLON 2010
NEW YORK, NY - Triathletes worldwide quaked in fear as elite athlete David Griffiths announced his bid to win the Nautica New York City Triathlon 2010. Griffiths' trainer, fellow Belgian Jean-Claude Van Damme, confirmed that Griffiths has already started his training in earnest, cutting his chocolate consumption to "only a few" chocolate bars a day to ensure he reaches his optimum weight in time for the weigh-in on July 18, 2010, and has been sighted by paparazzi running up at least two flights of steps to get to his local coffee shop.
This epic bid, requiring a 1500 meter point-to-point swim in the Hudson River, a 40 kilometer bike on the challenging Henry Hudson Highway and a brutal 10 kilometer run that finishes in Central Park will pit Griffiths against the top triathletes in the world - Bevan Docherty of New Zealand, Alexander Brukhankov of Russia and David Hauss of France, as well as 43,659 other triathletes that Griffiths is "confident" that he can beat.
Griffiths is taking part in the triathlon to support Go Help and The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Team In Training. Team in Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives.
Speaking to the New York Telegraph from his top secret high altitude training basecamp located on a remote Himalayan mountain, Griffiths had this one promise to his supporters: "Support me today! If you help me smash my fundraising target of £1,800 / $2,700, I promise not to appear in public wearing spandex!"
