The GUCH Historical Hundred: Thames Path Walk · 10 March 2009

Somerville Heart Foundation helps young people and adults who were born with a heart condition. We provide information and guidance services plus conferences and events to educate, raise awareness and combat isolation. We also support mental health with counselling and workshops.

Story

UPDATE: 1 June 2009 - 1 day in and we've beaten our £1,000 fundraising target. Thank you VERY much to everyone who has sponsored us: please tell all your friends - we don't have to stop raising money just because we reached the first target ;-). Today was beautifully hot, with a cooling breeze - and we successfully completed the first nine miles from Windsor to Staines.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Do you ever wonder what happens to those 'blue' babies you hear about? The ones who fight for their lives as their hearts aren't plumbed in quite right? Well, some them have grown up and are setting off on a charity walk of the Thames Path - the final 100km from historic Windsor to the Houses of Parliament over the course of a week. For more about the Thames Path see here: http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Thamespath/

All are members of the Grown Up Congenital Heart Patients Association (GUCH PA), a charity set up in 1993 to provide support for young people and adults who were born with heart conditions.

With the progress in surgery meaning many of these children are surviving into adulthood, GUCH PA is helping more and more people every year.

This group are also members of the GUCH walking club and meet regularly for long walks, hikes and outdoor pursuits, having completed the Hadrians Wall walk in summer 2007.

This will be an immense mental and physical challenge for people who are living with a heart condition

There is a future, and it's got blisters on it!

Many thanks for your support
