This memorial page is in remembrance of our beloved Guy, who so tragically died of a heart attack, aged only 42 years young, on 30 December 2009. He died during a karate lesson, which was something he loved doing. He was a skilled and dedicated karate student and was on course to get a black belt at his next grading.
During the last few years of his life, Guy experienced the huge challenge and responsibility of caring for a much loved person who was suffering with an eating disorder. Eating disorders are a serious mental illness affecting 1.6 million people in the UK. Anyone can be affected by an eating disorder, regardless of age, sex, culture or racial background. Although the people most likely to be affected tend to be young women, it can also affect boys and men and it is not unusual for an eating disorder to appear in middle age.
It is because of this that we have chosen beat as the charity that we would like you to make donations to, in Guy's memory. It is the leading UK charity for people with eating disorders and their families, providing much needed helplines for adults and young people, online support and a UK-wide network of self-help groups to help people beat their eating disorder. We know that Guy would want you all to dig deep and assist in beat's cause to try and ensure that those who suffer from this illness and their families get the help and support they deserve.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate. beat will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
With many thanks for your kind thoughts, support and donations.
Love from us all
Alice, Laura, Chloe and Patrick
