Great Wall of China Marathon - May 19th 2007

I am very pleased to say we all managed to finish the race...
Peter and I did the marathon in a superb time of 6hrs 26mins, the temperature on the day was over 35degrees with no shade....
Jan completed the Half Marathon in 3hrs 59mins and also had a splendid day, she took loads of pics which will soon be added to the website...

30th July 2000, I had a heart transplant at Harefield hospital. Since that date I have tried to raise transplant and donor awareness and encourage people to join the organ donor register. This will lead to other people receiving the gift of life.
I founded the charity "To Transplant and Beyond" to help support people approaching transplantation and to show them that transplantation really does work. To date I have run 10 marathons since transplant as well as several other events.
The Great Wall of China marathon will be my biggest challenge so far, due to the heat, altitude and over 3,700 steps to climb, not to mention the 26.2 mile distance.
Outback Steakhouse is generously paying for me to be the first heart recipient to take part in the Great Wall of China marathon, so every penny I manage to raise will go directly to the charity and help support others.
My wife Jan and good friend Peter Russell will also be taking part in this event, Peter will be doing the marathon with me and Jan is going to do the half marathon. They have both paid for their own entry etc so once again every penny we receive will go directly to the charity.
